During the month of July I maintained a habit of drinking more water and less sodas. I really wanted to create this habit because every time I am at vacations I drink many bottles of Coca-Cola without noticing it. Limiting myself to three bottles of soda per week has helped me live a more healthy life. Being healthy feels very good and even though its cliché, I feel like its true. Drinking more water actually did help me a lot because I got less tired when walking around different cities I visited during the holidays, I actually slept better, and just simply felt better every day.
Honestly, maintaining this habit was very hard for me because I'm used to ordering a Coke every time I'm at a restaurant or just feeling tired and thirsty. The Coke helped me because it somewhat renewed my energy, but later on, the caffeine died out, so I ordered another one and another one and another one. I had told myself in previous vacations that I would stop drinking so much soda, but I never really brought myself to it. I took this Habit task as an excuse to stop.
The first two weeks were much harder than the last two, but habits are developed over time. I started by only ordering iced water and I honestly liked it a lot, but after a while I got bored and really wanted to go back to drinking Coke. It was as if I was addicted, yet I really wasn't, because during a normal school term I usually don't drink sodas at all, so I got concerned. What I did, was started ordering different juices instead of only water. On the third week, I got tired of the juices, I felt much more refreshed with water than with the juices. I tried a bottle of Coke, but I found that I was starting to prefer water, my body preferred water.
Completing this habit and sticking to it is actually something I'm glad I did, because now I like water more that sodas. I believe that I was in a way addicted to sodas before, because every time I was in hot weather, the only thing that would refresh me would be a Coke.
